ABSTRACT

Objective: to analyze the effects of a Mindfulness-based intervention on nurse leaders' emotional intelligence and resilience. Method: a pilot study of a randomized crossover clinical trial. The sample (n=32) was randomized into Group A (n=18) and Group B (n=14) and evaluated at the pre-test, post-test and follow-up moments. The outcomes were assessed using the Emotional Intelligence Measure, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Questionnaire and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and analyzed using Generalized Linear Mixed Models. Results: a total of 32 nurses with a mean age of 42.6 years old were evaluated. The analyses showed significant interactions between the effects of the group x moment factors on the Self-motivation (p=0.005), Sociability (p<0.001), Self-control (p=0.013), and Total (p=0.002) emotional intelligence skill scores; as well as on the Observe (p=0.042), Describe (p=0.008), Non-judgment (p<0.001), Act with awareness (p=0.004) and Total (p<0.001) mindfulness facets. Post-test: there was a statistically significant increase in the Sociability (p=0.009) and Self-control (p=0.015) emotional intelligence skills; as well as in the Non-judgment (p=0.022) and Total (p=0.002) mindfulness facets. Follow-up: a significant increase was observed in the Non-judgment (p=0.024) and Total (p=0.026) mindfulness facets. The "resilience" variable did not present statistical significance in the "group x moment" factor, both in the post-test and during follow-up. Conclusion: the Mindfulness-based intervention used proved to be effective in increasing nurse leaders' emotional intelligence and dispositional mindfulness skills. Objetivo: analizar los efectos de una intervención basada en mindfulness sobre la inteligencia emocional y la resiliencia de enfermeros líderes. Método: estudio piloto de un ensayo clínico aleatorizado cruzado. Muestra (n=32) aleatorizada en el grupo A (n=18) y grupo B (n=14), se los evaluó en el pretest, postest y seguimiento. Los resultados fueron evaluados mediante la Medida de Inteligencia Emocional, el Cuestionario de Resiliencia de Connor-Davidson y el Cuestionario Mindfulness de Cinco Facetas, y analizados por el Generalized Linear Mixed Models . Resultados: fueron evaluadas 32 enfermeras con una edad promedio de 42,6 años. Los análisis mostraron interacciones significativas de los efectos de los factores grupo vs. momento en los puntajes de las habilidades de automotivación (p=0,005), sociabilidad (p<0,001), autocontrol (p=0,013) y total (p=0,002) de inteligencia emocional; de las facetas observar (p=0,042), describir (p=0,008), no juzgar (p<0,001), actuar con conciencia (p=0,004) y total (p<0,001) de mindfulness. Postest: hubo un aumento estadísticamente significativo de las habilidades de sociabilidad (p=0,009) y autocontrol (p=0,015) de inteligencia emocional; de las facetas no juzgar (p=0,022) y total (p=0,002) de mindfulness . Seguimiento: se observó un aumento significativo en las facetas no juzgar (p=0,024) y total (p=0,026) de mindfulness . La variable resiliencia no presentó significación estadística en el factor grupo vs. momento en el postest y seguimiento. Conclusión: la intervención basada en mindfulness utilizada demostró ser eficaz para aumentar la inteligencia emocional y las habilidades de mindfulness disposicional de los enfermeros líderes. A variável resiliência não apresentou significância estatística no fator Grupo x Momento, no pós-teste e seguimento. Conclusão: a intervenção baseada em mindfulness utilizada mostrou-se efetiva no aumento das habilidades de inteligência emocional e mindfulness disposicional de enfermeiros líderes. El factor de atención emocional ha sido reportado con frecuencia negativamente asociado con indicadores de salud mental; al contrario de los resultados obtenidos con los factores de claridad y de reparación emocional. Los objetivos del estudio fueron examinar las relaciones entre atención, claridad y reparación emocional con los factores de respuestas rumiativas y determinar si la relación entre la atención emocional y rumiación varía de acuerdo con los niveles de atención, claridad y reparación emocional en estudiantes universitarios de Lima, Perú. Para ello, primero se realizó un estudio de la estructura factorial y la confiabilidad de la TMMS-24 y de la Escala de Respuestas Rumiativas, en 320 estudiantes de una universidad pública de Lima, Perú. Segundo, se llevó a cabo un estudio correlacional mediante la aplicación de ambos instrumentos a 529 estudiantes de la misma universidad. En la muestra total se obtuvo que ambos factores de rumiación correlacionaron positivamente con atención emocional, pero solo reproche correlacionó con claridad y con reparación, siendo tal correlación negativa. Para determinar si la relación positiva entre atención y rumiación varía con los niveles de atención, claridad y reparación, se compararon las correlaciones entre atención y rumiación correspondientes a los grupos de baja, media y alta atención, claridad y reparación. Estas comparaciones mostraron que la relación entre atención y los factores de rumiación variaban solo en función del nivel de reparación. Los resultados indican diferencias importantes en la manera en que se relaciona cada factor de rumiación con la atención emocional, por un lado, y con la claridad y la reparación emocional, por el otro.


The emotional attention factor has been often reported as negatively associated with mental health indicators, contrary to the results attained with the emotional clarity and repair factors. The objectives of this study were to examine relationships between emotional attention, clarity and repair and factors of ruminative responses and to determine whether the relation between emotional attention and rumination could vary according to the levels of emotional attention, clarity and repair in university students from Lima, Peru. For this, in first place, a study was carried out to determine the factor structure and the internal consistency of the TMMS-24 and the Ruminative Responses Scale in 320 undergraduates of a public university in Lima, Peru. After this psychometric study, it was carried out a correlation study in 529 undergraduates from the same university. In the whole sample, both rumination factors positively correlated with emotional attention, but only brooding correlated with clarity and repair, negatively. In order to determine whether the positive relation between attention and rumination varies with the levels of attention, clarity and repair, the attention-rumination correlations were compared between groups of low, medium and high attention, clarity and repair. These comparisons shown that the relationship between attention and rumination factors varied only as a function of the level of repair. These results indicate important differences in the way that each rumination factor is related with emotional attention, on the one hand, and with emotional clarity and repair, on the other.

Contexto: la investigación busca determinar la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y la calidad de vida en pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica que reciben tratamiento de hemodiálisis de un hospital de la ciudad del Cusco, considerando el riesgo de la enfermedad para el logro de una mejor vida y los recursos existentes en la psicología de la salud. Metodología: el estudio se ubica en un nivel básico con un alcance correlacional y un diseño no experimental-transversal. Se incluyeron 96 pacientes diagnosticados con insuficiencia renal crónica que asistían a hemodiálisis y que fueron evaluados con el inventario emocional BarOn y el cuestionario KDQOL SF-36 para la calidad de vida. Los datos de identificación de los pacientes fueron obtenidos de las fichas de registro utilizadas, previo consentimiento informado de los evaluados. Posteriormente, para el análisis de datos descriptivos e inferenciales, se emplearon frecuencias y porcentajes; además de estadísticos de asociación, como el tau-b de Kendall, chi cuadrado y d de Somers. Resultados: la relación para inteligencia emocional y calidad de vida muestra un valor de p < 0,05, mediante la prueba de chi cuadrado; el estadístico tau-b de Kendall = 0,340 explica la dirección positiva de la relación e intensidad moderada de la asociación; el estadístico d de Somers = 0,339 ratifica que la inteligencia emocional en general mejora la calidad de vida de los pacientes en una intensidad media. También, se halló una relación significativa para cada una de las dimensiones de la inteligencia emocional con la calidad de vida. Conclusiones: existe relación directa entre inteligencia emocional y calidad de vida en pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica en hemodiálisis.


Background: The research seeks to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and quality of life in patients with chronic renal failure who receive hemodialysis treatment at a hospital in the city of Cusco, considering the risk of the disease for achieving a better life and the existing resources in health psychology. Methods: The study is located at a basic level, following a correlational scope and a non-experimental - cross-sectional design. 96 patients diagnosed with chronic renal failure attending hemodialysis were included, who were evaluated with the BarOn Emotional Inventory and the KDQOL SF-36 questionnaire for quality of life. The identification data of the patients were obtained from the registration forms used, with the prior informed consent of those evaluated. Subsequently, for the analysis of descriptive and inferential data, frequencies and percentages were used, in addition to association statistics such as Kendall's Tau-b, Chi square and Somers' D. Results: The relationship for emotional intelligence and quality of life shows a value of p < 0.05, using the Chi-square test, the Kendall Tau-b statistic = 0.340, explains the positive direction of the relationship and moderate intensity of the association. , Somers' D statistic=0.339 confirms that emotional intelligence in general improves the quality of life of patients at a medium intensity. A significant relationship was also found for each of the dimensions of emotional intelligence with quality of life. Conclusions: There is a direct relationship between emotional intelligence and quality of life in patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis.

ABSTRACT

This article recounts a poignant interaction between the author and a mother of a child with cerebral palsy. The mother's remarkable strength and optimism in the face of adversity deeply moved the author, leading to a tearful moment which prompted a comforting response from the mother. The ongoing debate regarding whether doctors are allowed to display emotions in their professional lives centers around the challenge of balancing professionalism with the emotional impact of providing healthcare to patients. While doctors are expected to uphold professionalism and make sound decisions in their work environment, simultaneous expression of emotions, empathy, and vulnerabilities becomes inevitable.

Resumen Objetivo: Conocer la relación de la inteligencia emocional (IE), satisfacción laboral y consumo de alcohol en el personal de enfermería que labora en un hospital de tercer nivel de atención. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, transversal y correlacional. La muestra fue de 129 profesionales de enfermería que laboran en un hospital de tercer nivel, divididos en áreas críticas y no críticas. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron una Cédula de Datos Socio-demográficos, Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24), Cuestionario de Satisfacción Laboral S10/12 y AUDIT. Resultados: El 75% fueron mujeres, con estudios de licenciatura, más del 45% consumieron alcohol en la última semana. Se encontró que existe una relación positiva y significativa entre la inteligencia emocional y la satisfacción laboral (rs = .236, p < .001), también se encontró relación negativa y ssignificativa entre la satisfacción laboral y el consumo de alcohol (rs = -.195, p < .05). Conclusiones: Se muestran diferencias entre la IE, la satisfacción laboral y el consumo de alcohol en el personal de enfermería de acuerdo con el área en la que labora. Así mismo se observa la relación positiva entre la IE y la satisfacción llaboral, además de relación negativa entre satisfacción laboral y consumo de alcohol. Este estudio manifiesta la importancia de conocer a profundidad que factores impactan el cuidado que proporciona el personal de enfermería dentro de los servicios hospitalarios y cuáles son los métodos que utilizan para afrontarlos.


Abstract Objective: To know the relationship between emotional intelligence, job satisfaction and alcohol consumption in nursing staff working in a tertiary care hospital. Materials and methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study. The sample consisted of 129 nursing professionals who work in a third level hospital, divided into critical and non-critical areas. The instruments used were a Socio-demographic Data Sheet, Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24), Job Satisfaction Questionnaire S10/12 and AUDIT. Results: 75% were women, with undergraduate studies, more than 45% consumed in the last week. It was found that there is a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction (rs = .236, p < .001), a negative and significant relationship was also found between job satisfaction and alcohol consumption (rs = -.195, p < .05). Conclusions: Differences are shown between EI, job satisfaction and alcohol consumption in nursing staff according to the area in which they work. Likewise, there is a positive relationship between EI and job satisfaction and a negative relationship between job satisfaction and alcohol consumption. This study demonstrates the importance of knowing in depth what factors impact the care provided by nursing staff within hospital services and what are the methods used to deal with them.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre inteligencia emocional y las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés en trabajadores asistenciales de un Hospital de Tercer Nivel de Atención durante el 2021. Material y método: Se realizó un estudio transversal analítico. Se utilizó dos encuestas: El test de COPE, el cual mide cómo afrontar el estrés y el Inventario de Coeficiente emocional de Bar-On, que mide el nivel de inteligencia emocional. La variable principal fue el afrontamiento al estrés; la independiente, la inteligencia emocional. Resultados: Se trabajó un total de 290 trabajadores asistenciales. La inteligencia emocional se correlacionó significativamente de manera positiva (Pearson = 0.6003) con el afrontamiento al estrés. Las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés con mayor media fueron planificación, reinterpretación positiva y crecimiento, afrontamiento religioso. Estas estrategias tuvieron una correlación positiva con la inteligencia emocional, estas correlaciones fueron 0.5271, 0.5200 y 0.2051, respectivamente. Para el análisis de regresión múltiple, se observó que el promedio de puntos del Test de BarOn aumentó en 0.261 puntos por cada punto que incrementa el TEST de COPE (coef. = 0,261; IC95%: 0.215 - 0.307); ello ajustado por todas las covariables de interés. Conclusión: Existe una relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el afrontamiento al estrés; también, se encontró relación con las estrategias de afrontamiento al estrés.


Objective: To determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress coping strategies in health care workers of a Third Level of Care Hospital during 2021. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out. Two surveys were used: the COPE test which measures how to cope with stress and the Bar-On Emotional Coefficient Inventory which measures the level of emotional intelligence. The main variable was coping with stress. The independent variable was emotional intelligence. Results: A total of 290 health care workers were worked. Emotional intelligence was significantly positively correlated (Pearson = 0.6003) with stress coping. The stress coping strategies with the highest mean were planning, positive reinterpretation and growth, and religious coping. These strategies had a positive correlation with emotional intelligence, these correlations were 0.5271, 0.5200 and 0.2051 respectively. For the multiple regression analysis, it was observed that the average BARON test score increased by 0.261 points for each point increase in the COPE TEST (coefficient = 0.261; 95%CI: 0.215 - 0.307); adjusted for all covariates of interest. Conclusion: There is a relationship between emotional intelligence and stress coping. A relationship was also found with stress coping strategies.

La inteligencia emocional se define como habilidades para conocer y dominar emociones propias y de otros/as. Los objetivos del presente estudio fueron validar un instrumento de inteligencia emocional en una muestra de estudiantes de Educación Física de Chile y describir las habilidades emocionales de la muestra. Se evaluaron 226 estudiantes de Educación Física de dos universidades de Santiago de Chile. Se aplicó la Escala rasgo de metaconocimiento emocional (TMMS-24). Los resultados revelan que el instrumento, reducido a 19 ítems, presenta tres factores que explican el 56,8% de la varianza total, con un alfa de Cronbach de 0,916. En relación con los niveles de inteligencia emocional, la muestra presenta valores altos, sin que existan diferencias significativas en las dimensiones claridad, atención y reparación del TMMS-24 entre damas y varones. Al comparar por años de carrera, sólo hay diferencias en la dimensión claridad, donde los/as estudiantes de 5º año poseen mayores puntajes que los/as de 2º. Se concluye que los/as estudiantes de Educación Física poseen altos índices de inteligencia emocional, sin diferencias entre damas y varones.


Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to know and master one's and/or others' emotions. The objectives of this study were to validate an emotional intelligence instrument in a sample of physical education students from Chile, and to describe the emotional skills of the sample. 226 physical education students from two universities in Santiago de Chile were evaluated. The Emotional Metacognition Trait Scale (TMMS-24) was applied. The results reveal that the instrument, reduced to 19 items, presents three factors that explain 56,8% of the total variance, with a Cronbach alpha of 0,916. In relation to the levels of emotional intelligence, the sample presents high values, without there being significant differences in the dimension's clarity, attention, and repair of the TMMS-24 between women and men. When comparing years of career, there are only differences in the clarity dimension, where 5th year students had higher scores than/as 2nd years. It is concluded that physical education students have high rates of emotional intelligence, with no differences between women and men.

Introducción: La inteligencia emocional es una habilidad blanda, definida como la capacidad de reconocer las emociones propias y ajenas para gestionarlas frente a otros de manera adecuada. Este tipo de inteligencia se relaciona con competencias y aptitudes humanas en diferentes áreas sociales, académicas y de trabajo. Objetivo: Describir el papel de la inteligencia emocional en la práctica clínica de los residentes médicos, como marco de referencia para su aplicación en la educación teórico-práctica y la realización de futuras investigaciones. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura en las bases de datos PubMed, LILACS y Google Scholar. Se emplearon operadores lógicos mediante distintas combinaciones: MeSH: Emotional Intelligence, Medical Residencies, Education, Medical, Education, Medical, Graduate; y DeCS: Inteligencia Emocional, Residencia Médica, Educación Médica, Educación de Postgrado en Medicina. La búsqueda se limitó por año, idioma y acceso libre, teniendo en cuenta criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Se obtuvieron 279 resultados, de los cuales fueron seleccionados 26 para ser incluidos en la revisión y síntesis de los resultados. Resultados: Los resultados se organizaron según su relación con la inteligencia emocional en: medición en residentes médico-quirúrgicos, niveles de estrés y burnout, empatía en la relación médico-paciente, desempeño académico, bienestar y satisfacción laboral. Conclusiones: La inteligencia emocional en los residentes médico-quirúrgicos se ha relacionado con menores niveles de estrés y burnout, comunicación asertiva, mayor empatía con los pacientes y calidad en la atención médica; además, con elevado rendimiento académico, mejores habilidades de enseñanza, liderazgo y motivación; y, finalmente, con mejor bienestar psicológico, satisfacción laboral y rendimiento clínico(AU)


Introduction: Emotional intelligence is a soft skill, defined as the ability to recognize one's own and others' emotions in view of managing them in front of others adequately. This type of intelligence is related to human competences and skills in different social, academic and occupational areas. Objective: To describe the role of emotional intelligence in the clinical practice of medical residents, as a frame of reference for its application in theoretical-practical education and the development of future research. Methods: A literature review was carried out in the PubMed, LILACS and Google Scholar databases. Logical operators were used by means of different combinations from the Medical Subject Headings: Emotional Intelligence, Medical Residencies, Education, Medical, Education, Medical, Graduate. The following combinations from the Health Sciences Descriptors were also used: "Inteligencia Emocional [emotional Intelligence], Residencia Médica [medical residence], Educación Médica [medical education], Educación de Postgrado en Medicina [postgraduate education in Medicine]. The search was limited by year, language and free access, taking into account inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 279 results were obtained, of which 26 were selected to be included in the review and synthesis. Results: The results were organized, according to their relationship with emotional intelligence, in measurement in medical-surgical residents, levels of stress and burnout, empathy in the doctor-patient relationship, academic performance, well-being, and job satisfaction. Conclusions: Emotional intelligence in medical-surgical residents has been related to lower levels of stress and burnout, assertive communication, greater empathy with patients, and quality in medical care; furthermore, with high academic performance, better skills for teaching, leadership and motivation; and, finally, with better psychological well-being, job satisfaction and clinical performance(AU)

Objectives: Trait emotional intelligence (TEI) is a key personality construct by which an individual recognizes, understands, expresses and regulates emotions in self and others to adapt to environments or achieve one’s goals. TEI skills are modifiable and have a potential to significantly influence psychological health (PH) of a person. The aims of current work were to evaluate relationship between TEI and PH of medical students and to explore the incremental validity of TEI to predict psychological distress beyond sociodemographic and educational factors in them. Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty-two medical students (mean age 18.02 years) participated in this cross-sectional study. TEI and PH were assessed using TEI questionnaire short form (TEIQue-sf) and depression, anxiety and stress scale (DASS-21), respectively. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was carried out to determine if scores on TEIQue-sf added significantly to the prediction of psychological symptoms in medical students. Results: There was a significant negative association (r = ?0.57, P < 0.001) between TEIQue-sf and DASS-21 scores. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that after controlling for sociodemographic and educational variables, TEIQue-sf scores explained a statistically significant increment of variance (P < 0.001) in DASS-21 scores. TEI emerged as best predictor of psychological distress of medical students followed by educational factors. However, sociodemographic profile as an attribute failed to demonstrate significant capacity to predict PH of our participants. Conclusion: Our results indicate that TEI is a robust and unique predictor of better PH and plays a positive role in promoting psychological well-being

Background: Spirituality is recognition of a sense that there is something greater than myself. Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances physical fitness and overall health. Music is a universal language to express mind through tone and emotions. Nature is the physical world or the universe. Intelligence is the global capacity of the individual to act purposefully, to think rationally. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand one’s own emotions and emotions of others. Adversity quotient deals with ability of a person to deal with adversities in life. Aims and Objectives: The present study was designed to study the effect of different interventions on intelligence, stress and cognitive functions. Materials and Methods: The present study was performed on 144 subjects in age group of 30–39 years. Their basal level of intelligence quotient (IQ), emotional quotient (EQ), resilience score (RS), acute stress score (ASS), perceived stress score (PSS), isometric handgrip (IHG), and stroop tests was recorded. The subjects were divided into four groups of 36 each. Four groups were allotted different interventions of spirituality practices, moderate intensity physical exercise, receptive music, and engagement with nature respectively for 1 month duration. Statistical analysis: ANOVA and post hoc tests along with student t-test were used for computing the results. Results: IQ, EQ, RS, ASS, IHG, PSS, and stroop subtests yielded mixed results with four interventions at different levels of significance. Conclusion: Although every intervention had different and positive impact on parameters, overall spiritual practices exhibited better response on parameters.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar a inteligência emocional entre estudantes de enfermagem na pandemia de COVID-19 e descrever os escores de atenção emocional, clareza e reparação na gestão das emoções. Métodos Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, observacional de delineamento transversal, composto por 121 estudantes do Curso de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um formulário autoaplicável contendo Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido, questionário sociodemográfico e a escala Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24, validado para o uso em língua portuguesa. Os dados foram submetidos a tratamento estatístico utilizando-se o programa Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, versão 20.0. Resultados Não houve diferenças significativas entre sexo, dados sociodemográficos e período da graduação com a pontuação do Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24. Entretanto, os alunos do quarto e do oitavo semestre apresentaram significativamente menores médias desta escala (p=0,015). Conclusão Evidenciou-se a necessidade de abordar a inteligência emocional ao longo da graduação em enfermagem, além de reforçar o amparo psicológico dos estudantes, a partir de serviços já disponibilizados pela universidade.

Resultados No hubo diferencias significativas entre sexo, datos sociodemográficos y semestre de la carrera con el puntaje de la Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24. Sin embargo, los alumnos del cuarto y del octavo semestre presentaron promedios considerablemente inferiores en esta escala (p=0,015). Conclusión Se evidenció la necesidad de tratar la inteligencia emocional a lo largo de la carrera de enfermería, además de reforzar la contención psicológica de los estudiantes, a partir de servicios que la universidad ya ofrece.


Abstract Objective To analyze emotional intelligence among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic and describe emotional attention, clarity and repair scores in managing emotions. Methods This is a quantitative, observational cross-sectional study, comprising 121 nursing students at the Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco. Data collection was performed using a self-administered form containing the Informed Consent Form, a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24, validated for use in Portuguese. Data were submitted to statistical treatment using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, version 20.0. Results There were no significant differences between gender, sociodemographic data, and graduation period with Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24 scores. However, fourth and eighth semester students had significantly lower averages on this scale (p=0.015). Conclusion The need to address emotional intelligence throughout the nursing graduation was evidenced, in addition to reinforcing the psychological support of students, based on services already provided by the university.

La delincuencia juvenil va en aumento, ya que factores individuales, familiares y sociales hacen vulnerables a muchos menores a que en la adolescencia delincan. Los factores individuales y los familiares son los que más fácilmente pueden ser tratados de forma tal que la mejoría en ellos traiga como resultado una disminución en la probabilidad de que luego los menores caigan en conductas delictivas. Objetivo: revelar la presencia de factores de riesgo personales y familiares de la delincuencia en menores que viven en la zona sureste de la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros, República Dominicana, al identificar en ellos su nivel intelectual, analizar su inteligencia emocional y determinar su estilo de afrontamiento y cuán funcionales son sus familias. Muestra: 538 menores que estudiaban en la escuela Ana Josefa Jiménez en los grados cuarto, quinto y sexto de primaria. Resultados: más de la mitad de los menores tienen un nivel bajo de inteligencia, en cuanto a la inteligencia emocional la puntuación más baja la tiene autocontrol, seguido por autoconciencia y empatía, el estilo de afrontamiento que utiliza la mayoría es indefinido, y más de la mitad de las familias son funcionales. Conclusión: 94% presentó factores de riesgo para la delincuencia, 29% un indicador, 38% dos indicadores, 23% tres indicadores y 4% los cuatro indicadores, revelando la presencia de factores de riesgo personales y familiares de la delincuencia en los menores que viven en la zona sureste de Santiago de los Caballeros.


Juvenile delinquency is on the rise, as individual, family and social factors make many children vulnerable to delinquency in adolescence. Individual and family factors are the ones that can most easily be addressed in such a way that an improvement in these factors results in a decrease in the likelihood that children will later engage in delinquent behaviour. Objective: to reveal the presence of personal and family risk factors for delinquency in minors living in the southeastern area of the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, by identifying their intellectual level, analysing their emotional intelligence and determining their coping style and how functional their families are. Sample: 538 children studying at the Ana Josefa Jiménez school in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades of primary school. Results: more than half of the children have a low level of intelligence, in terms of emotional intelligence the lowest score is self-control, followed by self-awareness and empathy, the co-ping style used by the majority is undefined, and more than half of the families are functional. Conclusion: 94% presented risk factors for delinquency, 29% one indicator, 38% two indicators, 23% three indicators and 4% all four indicators, revealing the presence of personal and family risk factors for delinquency in minors living in the southeast area of Santiago de los Caballeros.


A delinqüência juvenil está aumentando, pois fatores individuais, familiares e sociais tornam muitas crianças vulneráveis à delinqüência na adolescência. Os fatores individuais e familiares são os que mais facilmente podem ser abordados de tal forma que uma melhoria desses fatores resulte em uma diminuição da probabilidade de que as crianças se envolvam mais tarde em comportamentos delinqüentes. Objetivo: revelar a presença de fatores de risco pessoal e familiar para a delinqüência em menores que vivem na região sudeste da cidade de Santiago de los Caballeros, República Dominicana, identificando seu nível intelectual, analisando sua inteligência emocional e determinando seu estilo de lidar com a delinqüência e quão funcionais são suas famílias. Amostra: 538 crianças estudando na escola Ana Josefa Jiménez na quarta, quinta e sexta séries do ensino fundamental. Resultados: mais da metade das crianças tem um baixo nível de inteligência, em termos de inteligência emocional a pontuação mais baixa é autocontrole, seguido de autoconsciência e empatia, o estilo de lidar com a maioria é indefinido, e mais da metade das famílias são funcionais. Introducción: La inteligencia emocional facilita la gestión de emociones displacenteras, no obstante, su rol respecto de síntomas depresivos en estudiantes de medicina está aún en estudio y no está claro el peso que la inteligencia emocional tiene sobre este tipo de sintomatología. Objetivo: Analizar la relación entre los factores de la inteligencia emocional percibida y la sintomatología depresiva, ansiosa y estrés, en estudiantes de primer y sexto año de medicina. Método: con un diseño transversal expostfacto y un análisis Rlog hacia atrás, se observó la asociación entre la inteligencia emocional con la depresión en los estudiantes. Resultados: el único factor de la inteligencia emocional que explicó la presencia de síntomas depresivos fue la regulación emocional (Exp B= ,258: IC= 95%; ,128-,519; p=,000). También se identificó que la ansiedad y el estrés explicaron una proporción importante de la varianza de los síntomas depresivos (R2 Nagelkerke=,426) y que la presencia de cada uno de ellos aumentaba la probabilidad de presentar esta sintomatología. Conclusiones: Los datos muestran la importancia de la regulación emocional, la ansiedad y el estrés como predictores en la intensidad de la sintomatología depresiva en estudiantes de medicina, así como la diferenciación por sexo en la presencia de síntomas depresivos.


Introduction: Emotional intelligence facilitates the management of unpleasant emotions, however, emotional intelligence's role regarding the presence of depressive symptoms in medical students is still being studied, and it is not clear the relevance of emotional intelligence might have on this type of symptomatology. Objective: Analyze the relationship between factors of the perceived emotional intelligence and the presence of depressive and anxious symptoms and stress in first- and sixth-year medical students. Methods: Using a ex post facto design and a log-backward analysis the association between emotional intelligence factors and depression in students was observed. Results: The only emotional intelligence factor that explained the presence of depressive symptoms was emotional regulation (Exp B= ,258: CI= 95%; ,128-,519; p=,000). It was also identified that anxiety and stress explained a significant proportion of the variance of depressive symptoms (R2 Nagelkerke=,426) and that the presence of each of them increased the probability of presenting this symptomatology. Conclusions: The data show the importance of the emotional regulation, as a predictor of the intensity of depressive symptomatology in medical student. Also, of other variables included in the model such as: stress and anxiety symptoms and gender differentiation in the presence of depressive symptoms.

Introducción: la enfermedad COVID-19 ha condicionado nuevos escenarios de aprendizaje en el mundo, ha afectado la inteligencia emocional y en consecuencia, el rendimiento académico de grupos poblacionales de estudiantes. Objetivo: indagar, desde varias fuentes de investigación, la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y el rendimiento académico en estudiantes de Medicina en el escenario de la COVID-19, a partir de un estudio en el período de 10 años antes y durante la pandemia. Métodos: se realizó una revisión de fuentes bibliográficas en SciELO, Dialnet y Google académico, comprendidas entre los años 2012 y 2022 con el uso de palabras claves: inteligencia emocional, rendimiento académico, estudiantes, Medicina, COVID-19. Se seleccionaron artículos científicos, tesis de grado y maestría para lograr la pertinencia en el estudio realizado. Desarrollo: se evaluaron en el orden conceptual la inteligencia emocional y el rendimiento académico en estudiantes universitarios, fueron analizadas las investigaciones más relevantes atendiendo al autor (año), el tipo de publicación o estudio realizado. Se aplicaron pruebas estadísticas que permitieron ponderar los criterios y principales regularidades en relación con el tema. Conclusiones: con la revisión de publicaciones se pudo constatar los efectos de la pandemia en la inteligencia emocional y el rendimiento académico. Este nuevo escenario de aprendizaje es todavía un reto para la comprensión de docentes e investigadores.


Introduction: the COVID-19 disease has conditioned new learning scenarios in the world, it has affected emotional intelligence and, consequently, the academic performance of population groups of students. Objective: to investigate, from various research sources, the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in medical students in the COVID-19 scenario, based on a study in the 10-year period before and during the pandemic. Methods: a review of bibliographic sources was carried out in SciELO, Dialnet and Google Scholar, from 2012 to 2022 with the use of keywords: emotional intelligence, academic performance, students, Medicine, COVID-19. Scientific articles, degree and master's theses were selected to achieve relevance in the study carried out. Development: emotional intelligence and academic performance in university students were evaluated in the conceptual order, the most relevant investigations were analyzed according to the author (year), the type of publication or study carried out. Statistical tests were applied that allowed to ponder the criteria and main regularities in relation to the subject. Conclusions: with the review of publications, it was possible to verify the effects of the pandemic on emotional intelligence and academic performance. This new learning scenario is still a challenge for teachers and researchers to understand.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The assessment of emotional intelligence is limited by the lack of psychometrically valid instruments. The present study aimed at cross-culturally adapting and validating the Emotional Intelligence Self-perception Questionnaire (EIQ-SP) in samples of Brazilian and Portuguese university students. Within this scope, in a sample of 1,074 students, reliability, construct-related validity, and criterion-related validity were analyzed. Additionally, metric invariance between the two samples and between genders was assessed. EIQ-SP showed appropriate psychometric qualities in its validation for use in Brazil, maintaining Mayer and Salovey's four-branch model. With a short application time, simple and objective language, its small number of questions makes it an attractive and valuable instrument to investigate Emotional Intelligence.


Resumo A avaliação da inteligência emocional apresenta-se limitada pela falta de instrumentos psicometricamente válidos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo adaptar e validar transculturalmente o Questionário de Autoperceção de Inteligência Emocional (QIE-AP) em amostras de estudantes universitários brasileiros e portugueses. Neste âmbito, em uma amostra de 1074 estudantes, foram analisadas a fiabilidade, a validade relacionada com o constructo e a validade relacionada com o critério. Adicionalmente, foi avaliada a invariância métrica entre as duas amostras e entre gêneros. O QIE-AP demonstrou qualidades psicométricas adequadas em sua validação para uso no Brasil, mantendo o modelo tetrafatorial de Mayer e Salovey. Com tempo de aplicação curto, linguagem simples e objetiva, seu número reduzido de questões o torna um instrumento atrativo e valioso na investigação da Inteligência Emocional.


Resumen La evaluación de la inteligencia emocional se ve limitada por la falta de instrumentos psicométricamente válidos. El presente estudio tiene el objetivo de adaptar culturalmente y validar el Cuestionario de Autopercepción de Inteligencia Emocional (CIE-AP) en muestras de estudiantes universitarios brasileños y portugueses. En este ámbito, en una muestra con 1074 estudiantes, se analizaron la fiabilidad, la validez relacionada con el constructo y la validez relacionada con el criterio. Adicionalmente, se evaluó la invariancia métrica entre las dos muestras y entre géneros. El Cuestionario de Inteligencia Emocional - Autopercepción (CIE-AP) demostró calidad psicométrica adecuada en su validación para uso en Brasil, manteniendo el modelo tetrafatorial de Mayer y Salovey. Con tiempo de aplicación corto, lenguaje simple y objetivo, su número reducido de cuestiones lo convierte en un instrumento atractivo y valioso en la investigación de la Inteligencia Emocional.

Introducción: La pandemia COVID-19 evidenció que los profesionales de Enfermería necesitan desarrollar, entre otras habilidades, la inteligencia emocional suficiente para enfrentar la carga laboral compleja que la situación demanda. Objetivo: Relacionar la inteligencia emocional y la carga laboral en los profesionales de Enfermería, en tiempos de COVID-19. Métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, transversal, no experimental, correlacional, desarrollado con una muestra de 197 enfermeras de un hospital del Callao en Perú, marzo-julio 2021. Mediante encuesta virtual, se aplicaron la Escala de Inteligencia Emocional -TMMS-24 y el Cuestionario de valoración de carga laboral. Se efectuó análisis de correlación con la prueba no paramétrica Rho de Spearman. Resultados: Un 34 por ciento de profesionales presentaron carga laboral media e inteligencia emocional adecuada y un 19,30 por ciento presentó carga laboral media e inteligencia emocional que debe mejorar. El valor Rho de Spearman de 0,047 determinó que entre ambas variables existe correlación positiva muy baja. Conclusiones: Los profesionales de Enfermería, durante la COVID-19, han demostrado poseer inteligencia emocional adecuada y sobrecarga laboral media, con una relación muy baja entre las variables. Existe muy baja incidencia de inteligencia emocional excelente y no existe carga laboral baja en ninguno de los servicios(AU)


Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic evidenced that nursing professionals need to develop, among other skills, sufficient emotional intelligence to face the complex workload demanded by the situation. Objective: To relate emotional intelligence and workload in nursing professionals in times of COVID-19. Methods: A quantitative, cross-sectional, nonexperimental and correlational study was developed with a sample of 197 nurses from a hospital in Callao, Peru, in the period of March-July 2021. By means of a virtual survey, the TMMS-24 emotional intelligence scale and the Workload Assessment Questionnaire were applied. Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman's nonparametric rho test. Results: 34 percent of professionals presented average workload and adequate emotional intelligence, while 19.30 percent presented average workload and emotional intelligence to be improved. Spearman's rho value of 0.047 determined that there is very low positive correlation between both variables. Conclusions: During COVID-19, nursing professionals have demonstrated that they have adequate emotional intelligence and average work overload, with a very low relationship between the variables. There is a very low incidence of excellent emotional intelligence and no low workload in any of the services(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objective: Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2, an orphan disease also known as spinocerebellar degeneration, is characterized by a degenerative process of the cerebellum and spinal cord. Method Biographical review of a Japanese woman known as Aya Kitou, using a qualitative approach of discourse analysis to identify resilience capacity, based on Boris Cyrulnik's Biopsychosocial model. Results Description based on the detailed experience reported in Aya´s diary; the areas to achieve resilience are identified (internal resources, sociocultural significance and social support system) Conclusion Although the progression of the clinical condition compromised Aya"s functional capacity, limiting her autonomy and quality of life, it was evidenced that thanks to strong social networks individuals are more likely to achieve resilience, although the prevalence of social values and meanings upon the patient creates greater social anxiety and a greater feeling of inferiority and incapacity.


Objetivo A ataxia espinocerebelar tipo 2, uma doença órfã também conhecida como degeneração espinocerebelar, é caracterizada pelo processo degenerativo do cerebelo e da medula espinhal. Método Revisão biográfica de mulher japonesa conhecida como Aya Kitou, a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa, baseada na análise do discurso, para identificar a capacidade de resiliência, a partir do modelo biopsicossocial de Boris Cyrulnik. Resultados Descritos com base nas vivências detalhadas de seu diário, são identificadas as áreas para alcançar resiliência (recursos internos, significado sociocultural e sistema de suporte social). Conclusão Embora a progressão do quadro clínico tenha comprometido sua capacidade funcional, limitando sua autonomia e qualidade de vida, evidenciou-se que, graças às fortes redes sociais, tem mais chance de alcançar resiliência, embora, com a prevalência de valores e significados sociais sobre ela, haja maior ansiedade social e maiores sentimentos de inferioridade e incapacidade.

ABSTRACT

RESUMENObjetivo: determinar la relación entre la inteligencia emocional y la prevalencia del consumo de alcohol en jóvenes universitarios. Método: diseñodescriptivo, transversal y correlacional, muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia con una muestra de 365 estudiantes de una institución pública de educación superior en el periodo 2021-2022, en H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México, se utilizó estadística descriptiva y correlacional. Resultados: el género femenino fue mayor (76.7%), con un rango de edad de 18 a 24 años, donde la prevalencia de consumo de alcohol en la vida fue de 77% y la edad de primer consumo se ubicó entre 15 y 18 años (56.4%). El consumo lapsico fue en el último año 38.8%. Las dimensiones inteligencia emocional de atención de los sentimientos y reparación de emociones presentaron en ambos géneros valores similares, en su mayoría un nivel adecuado y excelente. La correlación en mujeres entre edad de consumo de alcohol y las dimensiones la inteligencia emocional, fue significativa e inversa. Conclusión:los estudiantes presentan altas prevalencias de consumo y inteligencia emocional, se encontró que para el género masculino la claridad emocional requiere estrategias que permitan mejorarla.


Objective:to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the prevalence of alcohol consumption in university students. Method: descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational design, non-probabilistic convenience sampling with a sample of 365 students from a public institution of higher education in the period 2021-2022, in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, descriptive and correlational statistics were used. Results: the female gender was higher (76.7%), with an age range of 18 to 24 years, where the prevalence of alcohol consumption in life was 77% and the age of first consumption was between 15 and 18 years. (56.4%). The lapsique consumption was in the last year 38.8%. The emotional intelligence dimensions of attention to feelings and repair of emotions presented similar values in both genders, mostly an adequate and excellent level. The correlation in women between the age of alcohol consumption and the emotional intelligence dimensions was significant and inverse. Conclusion: the students present high prevalences of consumption and emotional intelligence, it was found that for the male gender, emotional clarity requires strategies that allow it to be improved.

Método: desenho descritivo, transversal e correlacional, amostragem não probabilística de conveniência com 365 estudantes de uma instituição pública de ensino superior no período de 2021 a 2022, em H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México. Aplicou estatística descritiva e correlacional. Resultados: o sexofeminino foi maior (76,7%), com faixa etária de 18 a 24 anos, onde a prevalência de consumo de álcool na vida foi de 77% e a idade do primeiro consumo foi entre 15 e 18 anos (56,4%). O consumo lapsico foi no ano passado 38,8%. As dimensões da inteligênciaemocional de atenção aos sentimentos e reparação de emoções apresentaram valores semelhantes em ambos os sexos, na sua maioria um nível adequado e excelente. A correlação das mulheres entre a idade de consumo de álcool e as dimensões da inteligência emocional foi significativa e inversa. Conclusão: os alunos apresentam altas prevalências de consumo e inteligência emocional, e verificou-se que para o gênero masculino, a clareza emocional requer estratégias que permitam melhorá-la.

ABSTRACT

Emotional intelligence helps to know emotions which are helping to spend life more easily and happily and such type of people are more satis?ed than other people. This study was quantitative in nature and theoretical research method was used. Perceptions of teachers how they teaching methods in classrooms and to what degree they were emotionally attached with students were identi?ed. Teachers were asked about emotional engagement with school environment, colleagues, students, emotional level in student teacher interaction and impact of the teacher engagement on student achievement. It was concluded that teachers had moderate attachment with school climate, colleagues and students. It is recommended that government should recruit teachers of high emotional intelligence as a result teachers' classroom management can be improved
